WE.WILL.NOW TESOL CYCLE 2 ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!!
WWN.TESOL is a 6 month training program for individuals between the ages of 18 and 29 who are interested in becoming ESL
teachers. The program consists of in-class instruction, community placements & workshops, and each student will be given the opportunity to facilitate their own 3-month ESL class in a low-income community inToronto.
Once youth complete the program, they receive a TESOL certificate, a $250 honorarium, and job opportunities through We.Will.Now.
ELIGIBILITY:
* Between 18 and 29
* Resident of one of the 13 priority neighbourhoods
* Available evenings and weekends.

Im just sending out some more info about the Hip Hop music showcase we are presenting at harbourfront community centre on September 24th. We are still looking for some performers, and of course, youth to come out and watch the show. Attached is the flyer for the event and below is a brief write up. Lakeshore Urban Music Fest will take place on September 24th from 12-4pm
at Harbourfront Community Centre.
The event will feature youth performers that are MC’s, Dancers, DJs and visual artists.
The purpose of the event is to showcase young Toronto talent in creative fields.
There will also be a rehearsal/soundcheck night at the community centre on Wednesday, September 21st from

      Are you or is someone you know an initiator, collaborator, and all around not-for-profit superstar?  Consider applying to The Toronto Community Foundation’s Vital People grant program, which supports our city's community leaders with grants of up to $5,000 for professional development. The deadline to apply is September 28, 2011.

      Vital People are valued leaders who are making outstanding contributions working full time at not-for-profit organizations. Funded through the Foundation’s Vital Toronto Fund, Vital People grants are awarded to support the formal training or other informal development opportunities that enable not-for-profit leaders to build their skills and knowledge to enhance their leadership contributions. Grants are available to those just taking on new leadership challenges, as well as those with many years of experience.

How To Submit:
Deadline for Entries:  Thursday August 18, 2011 (ONLY ONE WEEK LEFT!!!)                                      
If you are a young artist or a group of artists, between the ages of 16 and 24, we invite you to submit your ideas to us, which could land you a spot in front of our esteemed panel of judges for a live and interactive pitch contest!

To apply you must be:
·      An artist or part of a group of artists
·      Between the ages of 16 and 24
·      Developing an artistic project or are serious about your arts initiative

ArtReach Toronto encourages artists working in a broad range of art forms to apply, including dance, drama, music, carnival and circus, film and video, TV and radio, new media, fashion, creative writing, visual arts, crafts, hip hop, design, multi-media, urban arts, drag & gender performance art and more.

Prizes:

Nine lucky submissions will be chosen to pitch their ideas live on Thursday September 15, 2011 for a chance to win one of three $5,000 prizes awarded to participants in the following contest categories:
•       Community Youth Arts Groups (i.e. theatre groups, filmmaker collective, break dance crew)
•       Individual Artists (i.e. singers, poets/spoken word artists, MCs)
•       Youth Arts Entrepreneurs (i.e. clothing designers, curators, music promoters)

Exciting runner up prizes will contribute to bringing awareness to your project or art!

Process:

·      To enter, you must submit a three-page (maximum) proposal answering the series of questions listed below, pitching your idea to the committee by the deadline of Thursday August 18, 2011.
·      The nine lucky finalists chosen to make their pitch will be announced on August 26, 2011!  ALL finalists are required to attend a two-part workshop series entitled How To Make a Pitch. These sessions will be held on Thursday September 1 and Thursday September 8, 2011.
·      Finalists will then pitch their ideas LIVE on Thursday September 15, 2011 making a creative, energetic, inspiring and convincing presentation, pitch or performance in less than 5 minutes!!
·      A panel of knowledgeable, high profile judges will provide on the spot feedback to all finalists and award three winners with the grand prizes of the PITCH CONTEST!

Join us for a walk and stories of youth speaking for themselves about what safety means to them, how it compares to back home and what it takes for streets to be safe in their community.

CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

A free training program for leadership development in mural art production and project management.
For  youth mural artists

APPLICATION DEADLINE: 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011



Class schedule:      May & June Tuesdays,  4pm 6pm. Start date May 10

                                    June/July    - Saturdays, 11am 4pm  

                                    Total = 60+ hours of classroom and hands-on instruction

LOCATION:           The Hub, 2660 Eglinton Avenue East (at Brimley) for in class instruction.

Onsite and hands-on class locations will be confirmed later. This course is free for qualifying youth artists who show a serious interest in furthering their knowledge and skills in mural art.



To qualify, you must:

         Be 16 years or older;

         Have completed a minimum of Grade 11 art class or equivalent

         Demonstrate interest in large scale outdoor painting and community public art

         Be prepared to commit to completing the full Leadership Training in Mural Making Course

         Have previous experience working in mural art or similar visual art

         Attend an interview on May 3, between 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

HEYY (Hearing Every Youth through Youth) is a free, anonymous, non-judgmental
phone line, run by youth for youth. HEYY volunteers are friendly and are good
listeners with open minds.

It’s last-minute interview time yet again at Hearing Every Youth through Youth – that means that from now until next Wednesday, March 9th, interested youth looking for training, experience and volunteer hours are invited to apply to become a youth counselor on the HEYY phone line!

Applicants must be turning 15 by the end of June in order to meet our age requirements. Coach positions are also available for those 23 and older who wish to volunteer in a mentoring capacity.
